Gazipur factory fire caused Tk 1bn in losses: Myone

Myone Electronics Chairman Abdur Razzaq Khan briefing the media on the losses incured during the blaze on Friday (Sept 13).The fire that broke out at the home appliance manufacturing plant Minister Hi-Tech Park Ltd, a sister concern of Myone Electronics in Gazipur on Friday (Sept 13) caused losses of Tk 1 billion, the company claimed.
“The company has insurance of Tk 1.23 billion and losses incurred from the fire were around Tk 1 billion,” Myone Electronics Chairman Abdur Razzaq Khan told the media on Saturday (Sept 14).
He said that several expensive goods including refrigerators and LED televisions were gutted in the fire.
According to Myone Electronics the fire that broke out at the home appliance manufacturing plant of its sister concern Minister Hi-Tech Park Ltd on Friday caused losses of Tk 1 billion.Razzaq claimed that the company has all the necessary documents including fire certificate and environment clearance. “We had adequate fire safety equipment in the building.”
His claim was in contradiction to the fire service claim that the building lacked adequate fire safety.
“The factory was built in keeping with the building code and following the fire service guidelines,” he said.
According to Myone Electronics the fire that broke out at the home appliance manufacturing plant of its sister concern Minister Hi-Tech Park Ltd on Friday caused losses of Tk 1 billion.Saying that the goods were stored on the sixth floor of the factory, he added that necessary steps will be taken so that similar incidents don’t occur anymore.
He added that the factory will remain closed for the next three days for investigation and renovation.
On Friday (Sept 13) firefighters in Gazipur battled for seven hours to tame the blazes that erupted at the six-storey factory of Minister Hi-Tech Park Ltd.
According to Myone Electronics the fire that broke out at the home appliance manufacturing plant of its sister concern Minister Hi-Tech Park Ltd on Friday caused losses of Tk 1 billion.As many as 18 firefighting units from Gazipur city, Tongi and Joydebpur were dispatched to the district’s Dhirashram area to battle the flames.
According to fire service officials the factory lacked adequate fire safety measures.
Department of Inspection of Factories and Establishment had said that the factory didn't carry out fire drills regularly and the warehouse on the sixth floor is a violation of the regulations.
