The dead have been identified were identified as 24-year-old Abul Karim and 29-year-old Nesar Ahmed alias Nesar ‘Dacoit’ of the Nayapara refugee camp.
Police conducted a drive at Jadimura Hill area around 2am acting on a tip-off, said OC Pradip Kumar Das of Teknaf police.
Criminals fired at police at one stage, triggering a gunfight.
Karim and Nesar, injured in the shooting, were arrested from the spot, according to the police officer. “After confirming their identities by the help of locals, they were taken to the state-run hospital in Teknaf before being taken to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared both of them dead,” said OC Das.
They succumbed to their injuries while being taken to the Sadar Hospital, OC Das said.
Two firearms and seven bullets were recovered from the scene of the shooting, he added.
Jubo League leader Faruk, 30, was shot dead at Jadimura on Aug 22. His family said he had been picked up by a group of Rohingyas and murdered.
Since then, four men, suspected of being involved in the murder, have been killed alleged shootouts. With the latest incident, a total of six suspects in the murder have died.
Bangladesh is now home to more than 1.1 million Rohingyas who fled persecution in Myanmar’s Rakhine State and now live in refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar.
