‘Govt won’t interfere in upcoming polls in three cities’The government will not intervene in the upcoming elections in three cities and the Election Commission will hold polls as per the popular demand, says Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Chandra road construction site in Gazipur, Quader said, “A free, fair and credible election will be held (in Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal).”
The ruling Awami League General Secretary said, “(BNP’s) Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir can visit polls areas to create the level playing field, but we can’t do so in line with the electoral code of conducts.”
“Despite being the AL secretary general, I never visited any city corporation election area and did not violate the electoral code of conducts during the Khulna and Gazipur city polls too,” he said.
On the development of roads construction, the minister said, “23 more bridges will be open for vehicular movement ahead of this Eid-ul-Adha, easing homebound people’s journey.”
