A teacher in Habiganj has been suspended after a student has lost sight in one eye when he threw a cane at her.

The suspension letter will be sent to the accused teacher, Niranjan Das, on Wednesday (Sept 11), said Primary Education Officer in the district Abdur Razzak.

The allegations against the teacher had been found to be true during primary investigation and a departmental case will be filed against the teacher over the matter within two days, said Razzak.

On Sept 8, Assistant Teacher Niranjan Das threw a cane at an eight-year old student, Habiba Akhter, who was hit in the eye and badly injured. 

The student was admitted to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital by the local people and was later referred to the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital in Dhaka for better treatment.

Habiba underwent an operation on Sept 9 after which doctors informed that she has lost sight in the eye.
