The highway from the south side of the Padma Bridge, stretching from Jajira, in Shariatpur to Shibchar in Madaripur has become eye-catching.
On the six lane express highway, a variety of flowers and trees has been planted. Around six thousand trees are featured, including local and foreign varieties.
One will be able to see Bokul, Mohua, Behera, Krishnochura and many more trees with fruits and medicinal qualities.
Saidur Rahman, a university student, who stopped to take photos, said: “this is unbelievably beautiful.”
One may be tricked into feeling that s/he is in a first world country, he added.
Every afternoon, nature-lovers throng here and the locals feel a sense of pride with the state of the art highway.
A local van driver, Anwar says: “the government has created something surreal here; thousands come here to enjoy the uplifting environment filled with trees and flowers.”
District administrator of Madaripur, Wahidul Islam, says: “through the department of forestry, the bridge authority took this two-year-long project at a cost of Tk 1.5 crore.”
As part of that project, countless flowers and trees were planted, he said.
The district administration will ensure proper upkeep of the trees and the overall environment, assured Wahidul Islam.
