Total of 196 general councillors including seven mayoral candidates will contest in the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) election run-up scheduled to be held on July 30, said the regional election office.
Seven aspirants will vie for the mayor post, 127 persons for the general councillor’s posts and 62 for the reserved councillor’s posts in the polls, said the Information Officer of the Regional Election Office Proloy Kumar Saha.
Two nominations of the mayoral candidates among nine were scrapped and six general councillor competitors have withdrawn their candidature from the race, he added.
