Shots fired during ex-state minister’s rally in NatorePolice in Natore have arrested two people after shots were fired during an Awami League campaign led by former state minister Ahad Ali Sarker.
The incident was reported from the Shibdur Village near the district town on Monday.
“Ahad Ali Sarker was leading a procession consisting of 30 motorcycles,” witness Helal Uddin told Bangla Tribune.
After the procession arrived in Fultala area around 5:30pm, the minister campaigned for the party. At one point, a local Juba League activist, identified as Manik, started hurling abuse to the former minister. He was removed by Sarker’s supporter.
Later in the evening, when the campaigner were at Shibdur village, a group of 6-7 people, led by Manik, riding three motorcycles opened fire on them.
Manik and his accomplice Sahadat have been arrested following the incident, said police.
“They have taken to custody for quizzing,” said Natore police OC Kazi Jalal Uddin.
Sarker, who served as the state minister for youth and sports, will start a case over the attack, he added.
