Khulna editor arrested in digital security case

Publisher and editor of ‘Prothom Shomoy’ Shahin Rahman was arrested from Dhaka’s Nakhalpara on Friday (Aug 23).Police have arrested the editor of an online media portal in Khulna in a case filed under the Digital Security Act for spreading ‘defamatory information’ on social media.
Publisher and editor of ‘Prothom Shomoy’ Shahin Rahman was arrested from Dhaka’s Nakhalpara on Friday (Aug 23) and taken to Khulna Sadar police station in the evening, confirmed Khulna Metropolitan Police (sadar zone) Additional Commissioner Md Kamruzzaman.
On Aug 9, Khulna Press Club President SM Habib started the case against him under sections 29 and 31 of the Digital Security Act.
According to the case documents, Shahin Rahman posted an objectionable status along with SM Habib’s photo on his Facebook page.
The post allegedly created much controversy after which Habib filed the case against him.
The documents also said Shahin often defamatory posts regarding representatives and well known people in Khulna on his page.
Khulna Sadar police Sub Inspector Saidul said that they had been trying to arrest Rahman since the case was filed.
In addition to this one, there is another case against him under the same act.
