Mob lynches two in Pabna

PabnaTwo alleged robbers have been killed in a lynch-mob attack in Pabna.

The incident was reported around 12am on Saturday (Aug 17) in the district’s Santhia Upazila, said police.

The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Shahin alias Holka Shahin and 35-year-old Machir alias Kalu, were operatives of the banned naxalite outfit Sarbahara Party, according to the police.

“Four extremists set out to rob the residence of Siddik (a local) at Chondoho Kanelpara village of the upazila around midnight. Siddik’s family sensed the presence of some robbers and started to shout when the robbers jumped into the canal in a bid to flee from the scene,” Santhia police OC Jahangir Hossain.

“The locals caught two of them who were subsequently beat them while the others managed to escape,” said Hossain.

“Being informed, police arrived at the scene and rescued the two before admitting them to the Upazila Health Complex. They were taken to Pabna General Hospital around 3am when their conditions deteriorated. Doctors at the hospital declared the two of them dead,” he said.

According to police, Shahin and Kalu were implicated in a series of cases over robbery and under the Explosives Act.
