Complaints of aberrations mar Moghi union by election

An independent candidate at the Moghi union by-election in Magura has complained of dishonest practices in which nomination was allegedly withdrawn by forging a candidate’s signature.
The election was supposed to be held on Jul 25 but since the all opposing parties withdrew nomination papers, AL candidate was unofficially declared the victor.
Meanwhile, candidate Raju Ahmed has lodged a complaint to the CEC over the withdrawal of nomination through forged signature. His complaint states that he submitted the nomination paper to compete in the by election.
After initial assessment, papers of seven people were deemed legal; however, when no assistance was given to him when he repeatedly asked for a symbol.
Raju Ahmed adds: “I was given pressure to withdraw nomination and therefore, I went into hiding; in the meantime I was told that since all candidates withdrew their nomination papers, the AL candidate was declared the winner.”
By submitting a false medical certificate and forging my signature, the nomination paper was withdrawn, he observed.
But returning officer of the upazila election, Amit Kumar Das claims that everything was done as per existing regulations.
He also said that he had not received any complaint about forged signatures.
In Moghi union, six candidates out of seven withdrew their nomination and AL supported Hasna Hena was declared the winner.
