Heavy rainfall inundates port city

Heavy rainfall submerged major parts of Chattogram city, causing miseries to city dwellers.
Downpour hit the port city since Saturday (Jul 13) morning inundating houses and business establishments under the knee and waist-deep water.
Waterlogging has been reported from the city’s Bahaddarhat, Muradpur, Oxygen intersection, Chawkbazar, Sholashahar Gate No. 2, Prabortak intersection, Dewan Hat, Choumuhani, Agrabad Badamtali intersection, Commerce College intersection, Agrabad CDA Residential Area, Halishahar Residential Area, Bakoliya, Chanktai and Khatunganj.
Residents from Baddarhat area told Bangla Tribune that knee-deep water inundated majority of houses and shops in the area.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune, college student Fahmida Haque Samira said that she went to the college in the morning crossing knee-deep water on the road scratching from Badamtali point to the college.
“Water-level rises when I left the college and I had to wade through it,” said Samira, who is a student of the city’s Agarabad Commerce College.
Meanwhile, 122.4mm rain was recorded over the past 24 hours till 3am on Saturday, said Ujjal Kanti Paul, a meteorologist of Chattogram’s Patenga weather office.
“Moderate to very heavy rain may continue throughout Saturday,” he added.
