A man was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of his wife in Barguna on Wednesday (Jun 26).

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Rifat Sharif, said Barguna police station OC Abir Hossain Mahmud.

According to witnesses, three people, armed with sharp weapons, attacked Sharif around 10am in front of his wife and many onlookers near the Barguna Government College.

A video of the incident, captured in a surveillance camera, has gone viral on social media.

A critically injured Sharif was rushed to Barguna General Hospital and later moved to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries around 4pm.

The victim’s father Dulal Sharif said: “Rifat and Ayesha Aktar Minni were married two months ago. A local named Noyon, used to harass Minni and Rifat, claiming she was Noyon’s former wife. The couple had a feud due to this.”

Based on this feud, Noyon, Rifat Farazi and Rabbi attacked Rifat Sharif and left him critically injured, he added.

Barguna police station OC Abir Hossain Mahmud said police have been able to identify the assailants from a video footage.

Police have launched raids to arrest the perpetrators, he added.
