Two Bangladeshis die in alleged BSF fire at Chapainawabganj

REUTERS/File PhotoTwo Bangladeshi men have been reportedly killed by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at Bakherali border in Chapainawabganj during the early hours of Monday (Jun 24).

The deceased are Bakkar, son of Charbadanga upazila's Ayub Ali, and Selim, son of Muktar Ali of Shibganj upazila.

Locals claimed that BSF men opened fire at 40-50 Bangladeshi cattle traders who entered the Indian side of the border through the Bakherali border in Chapainawabganj on Sunday night. Bakkar and Ali died on the spot.

They further claimed that Bakkar's body is still with the BSF.

When contacted, Lt Col Sajjad Sarwar, commanding officer of BGB 53 Battalion said: "We have heard the news of casualties in Bakherali but are not sure about the number.

"We have started our investigation regarding the incident. The media will be notified of future developments."
