Mymensingh mayor, councillors sworn in

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath of office to MCC Mayor Ekramul Haque Titu on Monday (May 27).The newly-elected mayor and councillors of Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) were sworn-in at a function at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on May 27, reports BSS.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath of office to MCC Mayor Ekramul Haque Titu, while 44 councillors — 33 male councillors and 11 women councillors — took oath from Local Government Minister Md Tazul Islam.

Local Government Division Senior Secretary SM Golam Faruk conducted the oath-taking ceremony.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was also present on the dais.

Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque, Deputy Opposition Leader in Parliament Raushon Ershad and PM’s Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury were present, among others, at the function.

The first-ever election to the MCC was held on May 5 in a festive mood.

Awami League mayoral contender Ekramul Haque Titu was elected uncontested as there was no rival candidate against him.

The government upgraded Mymensingh to Bangladesh’s 12th city corporation on Oct 15, 2018.
