In a unique protest, the residents of a residential area in Bakalia, Chattogram have planted arum saplings and released Koi fishes on a dilapidated and waterlogged street, demanding immediate repair.
The aggrieved residents of the city's Kalpolok Residential Area also formed a human chain during the demonstration on Sunday (May 26).
The street is so badly damaged that a little rain creates potholes and knee-deep puddles, halting vehicular movement and causing suffering to commuters every time, said the locals.
"There are several educational institutions in the area. The students face untold sufferings while going to schools. The plying of heavy vehicles has also left the streets damaged. They require immediate repair," said Rosy Ara, a school teacher.
The locals said Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) had handed 1,500 plots of the residential area to the owners in 2010. Since then no repair was done.
The streets of the residential area have turned into death traps due to the movement of heavy vehicles over the years, the protesters said.
