DUCSU VP Nur attacked in Bogura

Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) Vice-President (VP) Nurul Haque Nur has been attacked in Bogura allegedly by activists of ruling Awami League’s student front Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
As many as 15 others have also sustained injuries in the attack reported from the Woodburn Public Library premises at the municipality park in the district town’s on Sunday (May 26).
Cameraperson of Jamuna Television Shahniaz Shaon was also assaulted while filming the incident.
Bogura district convener of Bangladesh General Student Rights Protection Council Rakibul Hasan Rakib told Bangla Tribune that they hosted an iftar on Sunday with Nur as chief guest.
“Hearing about the programme, some 30-40 BCL activists led by Bogura Government Azizul Haque College BCL unit General Secretary Abudr Raouf took position near to the venue,” he said.
“BCL men launched the assault just after Nur along with others arrived at the venue by a microbus around 5:00pm,” said Takib adding the assault left at least 15 people including Nur injured.
Police, however, said the assault was carried out by a group of terrorists.
“Some 30-40 terrorists attacked on Nur and his entourage, but we couldn’t identify any attacker immediately,” said inspector Mostafiz Hasan, in-charge of nearby Stadium police outpost.
Following the incident, police rescued the injured along with Nur and took them to state-owned Mohammad Ali Hospital in the district town.
On-duty doctor Rokiya Akter told Bangla Tribune Nur and several others were given first aid. “Nur sustained injuries on his face and forehead,” she said.
The DUSCU VP along with the others has left for Dhaka after releasing from the hospital, said the Council’s Bogura district convener Rakib.
BCL Bogura district unit President Naimur Razzak Titas was not available for comment.
Bogura Sadar police said they have been informed of the incident but were unaware of Nur’s coming to the district.
“Police had no knowledge on Nur’s coming to Bogura,” said Sadar police OC SM Badiuzzaman.
