An alleged drug peddler has been killed in Meherpur in what the police described as a shootout.
The incident was reported around 1.45am on Wednesday (May 22) from Koromdi Mothpara area in the dictrict's Gangni Upazila, said police.
The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Nazmul Hossain.

"Being tipped-off that two groups of drug peddlers were exchanging gunshots in the area, a team of police conducted a raid there. Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the drug peddlers fled the scene," said Gangni police OC Harendranath Sarkar.

"Later, police found Najmul’s bullet-wound body and sent it to local state-run hospital for autopsy," said Sarkar.

"A firearm, 1kg of hemp and a motorcycle were seized from the spot," he added.

"Najmul was wanted in five cases," added the OC.
