The OC of Mohanpur Police Station in Rajshahi has been withdrawn for negligence of duty over the suicide of a schoolgirl after her rape.
"OC Abul Hossain has been withdrawn from the police station and attached to district’s police lines on Monday (May 20)," said Rajshahi Superintendent of police, Md Shahidullah.
The victim, 14-year-old Sumaiya Akhter Barsha, a ninth grader of Bakshimul High School in Mohonpur Upazila, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan late on May 16.
She left a note where she wrote that she took her life because she was unable to bear the insult and social stigma after being abducted and raped.
A three-member probe committee was formed from police head- quarters to find possible trace of negligence in investigating the cases and the two cases have been transferred to the detective branch of police.
Rajshahi Additional Superintendent of police, Iftekhar Alam, told Bangla Tribune: "the probe report was asked to be submitted within three days."
We have already started investigation of the cases and arrested 9 suspects in connection to the incident," said Alam.
