Lightning kills three in Narsingdi

In 2016, Bangladesh declared lightning strikes a disaster after a near record number of deaths that year.Three people have died and seven injured in Narsingdi when lightning struck them on Tuesday.
The incident was reported at 3pm from Nalbata area of Sadar Upazila, said Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Shahriar Alam.
The deceased victims have been identified as Rehana Begum, 35, Farida Begum, 45 and Selim Mia, 25.
Locals said the victims were all passengers of a boat, heading to the district town. As soon as the boat reached Nalbata, a storm erupted and lightning struck the boat killing one of the passengers immediately.
Nine others were taken to the state-run hospital in Narsingdi town, where doctors pronounced two dead.
Three out of the seven injured have been transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition while the rest are being treated in Narsingdi.
