Nusrat murder: Suspect Shamim on 3-day remand

Shahadat Hossain ShamimA court in Feni has granted police three days custody of Shahadat Hossain Shamim, one of the suspects in killing of Sonagazi madrasa girl Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Inspector Shah Alam of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) said that Shamim was produced before the court of senior judicial magistrate which remanded him on Thursday (Apr 25).
Shamim has already confessed to his involvement in the killing in a statement recorded by a magistrate, he said.
“We pleaded for five days custody for Shamim to glean more information but the court gave us three days,” PBI Inspector Alam, who is in charge of the investigation, said.
On Apr 13, PBI arrested Shamim from Mymensingh and the following day he confessed to his involvement before a Feni judicial magistrate.
After fighting for her life for five days, Nusrat succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Apr 10.
On Apr 6, she was set afire at an examination centre of Alim examination allegedly by students loyal to Principal Siraj Ud Doula of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Nusrat had accused him of sexually harassing her.
