Rana Plaza volunteer commits suicide

Nawshad Hasan HimuA 27-year-old man, who had volunteered during Rana Plaza collapse in 2013, has died after setting himself on fire in Savar.
Nawshad Hasan Himu poured kerosene and set himself on fire late on Wednesday (Apr 24), on the sixth anniversary of Rana Plaza tragedy.
The doctors declared him dead when taken to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka, Savar police Sub-Inspector Asgar Ali told Bangla Tribune.
“The body has been kept at the hospital,” he added.
Nawshad lived alone in a house in Birulia, Savar. His neighbours found him after the incident and sent him to the hospital.
The neighbours claimed that he had a history of mental instability.
Khandakar Hasibur Rahman Lebu, president of an organization named Rana Plaza Uddhar Kormi (Rana Plaza Rescue Workers), confirmed that Himu was indeed part of the volunteer rescue team during the tragedy.
