Relatives of Nusrat Jahan, who was burnt to death, want strict punishment for the criminals. One of the involved in the killing is Umme Sultana Popy, daughter of the sister-in-law of Siraj-ud-daula, the principal who molested Nusrat and ordered the burning.
Popy’s father Shahidul Islam says, “The principal is my brother-in-law and Popy was used in this savage crime; I want my daughter to be punished too.”
Mother of another accused, Shahadat Hossain, said, “I don’t want to see the face of my son who was involved in such a heinous and unspeakable crime like burning a class mate.”
Meanwhile, Nusrat’s elder brother, Mahmud Hassan Noman, said, “The people of the nation want justice for Nusrat.”
A second year HSC student, Fatema Akhtar, says, “In the wake of Nusrat’s killing, security for women at educational institutes need to be ramped up.”
Protest rallies and human chains demanding justice are underway in Feni. Protesters say they will carry on with the demand until justice is meted out.
