BSF firing kills Bangladeshi in Thakurgaon

REUTERS/File PhotoIndian Border Security Force (BSF) has gunned down a Bangladeshi youth near Thakurgaon border and detained another.
The incident was reported from Dongaon border of the district’s Haripur Upazila early on Monday (Apr 22), said Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The deceased has been identified as Md Sumon, 25, son of Shafirul Islam while the detainee is Md Masud Rana, 28, son of Ebadul. Both hailed from the upazila’s Dangipara village.
Commanding Officer of Thakurgaon’s BGB-50 Battalion Lt Col Samiun Nabi said that the BSF members from Basatpur camp opened fire on a group of cattle traders when they went to border post no 357, leaving Sumon dead on the spot.
"BGB has strongly condemned the incident,” said Nabi before adding they have called a flag meeting to bring back the detained Bangladeshi national and the body of the deceased.
