The ‘Span 6C’ will be installed at the Zajira point on Tuesday (Apr 23), said Assistant Engineer of the Padma Bridge Project Humayun Kabir.
The span—150 metres long and weighing about 3,140 tons—was transported from Munshiganj’s Mawa Construction Yard to Shariatpur’s Zajira upazila point on Monday (Apr 22) morning by the Tiyan E crane, he added.
Once installed, it will be the 9th span installed at Zaria end, and the 11th span of the bridge.
A total of 41 spans—each 150-metres-long—will be placed on the 42 pillars of the 6.15 kilometre bridge.
So far, nine spans have been placed—on pillars 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41 and 42— on the Zajira end of the bridge; and one more, span 3A, has been installed on the 13th and 14th pillars on the Mawa end.
One temporary span has been placed on pillars 5 and 6 on the Mawa end.
