In Nilphamari, Anufa Begum gave birth to a twin joined below the hip. The father, Lal Mia, a garment worker, has spent all his money for the caesarian operation and is unable to pay for further surgery.

When my wife became pregnant, she underwent ultra-sonogram and the doctor said that the child was in perfect order. After birth, we found joined babies, said the father and added, “Doctors at the Rangpur Medical Hospital asked us to take the babies to Dhaka.”

The mother deplores, “We cannot carry out the treatment of the twins without help from benevolent persons.”

Dr Mazharul Islam of Day Night Clinic in Rangpur, where the babies were born, said, “Our country has progressed in medical treatment and since the babies are not joined at the vertebra, separating them may be possible in Dhaka.”

Meanwhile, UNO of Jaldhaka went to see the children and named them Lamisha and Labiba. District administrator, Nazia Shirin, said, “The district administration will provide all out support to the parents for the treatment of the joined twins.”
