Two more arrests made over Nusrat murder

Iftekhar Uddin RanaThe Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested two more suspects in the killing of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Suspect Iftekhar Uddin Rana was arrested late on Friday (Apr 19) from the hill tract district town of Rangamati while Emran Hossain Mamun was held on Saturday (Apr 20) from Cumilla.
Inspector Shantosh Kumar Chakma of the Chattogram PBI said that Rana, a resident of Feni’s Sonagazi, was arrested as his name came up during the investigation.
Emran Hossain, a former student of Sonagazi Islamia Madrasa where Nusrat went, was arrested from Cumilla’s Choudyagram Upazila, said Additional Superintendent Md Moniruzzaman of the PBI in Feni.
A total of 18 people have been arrested in the case so far. Of them, four of the accused - Nur Uddin, Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Abdur Rahim Sharif and Abdul Kader - gave confessional statements before court.
Alim examinee Nusrat was set ablaze on the roof of the madrasa on Apr 6 morning by five burqa-clad assailants after she refused to withdraw sexual abuse charges against the madrasa’s Principal Sirajuddaula.
The 18-year-old, with 80 percent burns on her body, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Apr 10 after battling death for five days.
