A youth has been arrested in Noakhali for sexually harassing and attempting to kill an English department student of Noakhali University of Science and Technology (NSTU).
The youth, Hridoy, has been arrested on Tuesday (Apr 16) from Maijdee town in Noakhali, said Sudharam Model Thana police.
The girl has alleged that since she did not concede to his obscene proposals, Hridoy hit her on the back of the head which resulted in temporary amnesia. The girl demanded exemplary punishment of Hridoy.
It’s found that the girl used to teach Hridoy’s younger sister and late on Mar 2 while she was returning home from tuition, Hridoy accosted her and asked her to get on his bike. When the girl refused, Hridoy caught her hand and touched her inappropriately.
When the girl tried to run away,Hridoy hit her with a rod. The girl lost consciousness and was later saved by locals. Following the incident, the girl took treatment at different hospitals in Noakhali and later at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
When her parents informed the university authority, the teachers assisted the girl to lodge a case at the police station.
University registrar, Md. Mominul Huq, said, “One cannot evade the consequences of harassing a girl; the perpetrator has to be punished.”
