Representational image The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested another Alim examinee of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa in the Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case.
Md Shamim, 19, was taken into police custody from Chanchandia village under Feni’s Sonagazi upazila around 7pm on Monday, said PBI Additional SP Moniruzzaman.
“Shamim has been shown arrested in the Nusrat murder case for his suspected involvement in the attack on her,” he added.
Police so far have arrested 14 people -- seven of them were named in the case and seven others suspects, PBI Inspector Shah Alom told the media.
Nusrat, who was an Alim examinee, suffered 80% burns when she was set on fire by four burqa-clad unknown assailants, who were allegedly followers of now suspended madrasa Principal Sirajuddaula, on the roof of the institution at Sonagazi on Apr 6.
She was attacked for refusing to withdraw a case her family filed last month against Sirajuddaula for sexually harassing and assaulting her.
After she was set on fire, her family filed another case against eight people including Sirajuddaula on Apr 8.
The 18-year-old girl died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Apr 10 after battling death for five days.
