The first roadway slab has been installed on the Zajira end of Padma Bridge undergoing construction.
The slab was placed on the 7-F span between pillar 41 and 42 on Tuesday (Mar 19).
“The first slab was placed without a hitch this morning,” said an assistant engineer wishing to remain anonymous.
“We’ll start placing the rest of the slabs from tomorrow [Wednesday]. Around 78 slabs will be placed on each span,” he added.
A total of 41 spans, each 2 metres in width and 22 metres in length, will be placed in the 42pillars of the 6.15 kilometre bridge.
So far, seven spans have been placed on pillars 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41 and 42 on the Zajira end and one temporary span has been placed on pillars 5 and 6 on the Mawa end.
