Photo shows Dr Md Abdus Samad from Kurigram.One of the three Bangladeshis to die in the New Zealand mosque shooting is Dr Md Abdus Samad.
Hailing from Kurigram, Samad was a teacher at Bangladesh Agricultural University before he moved to New Zealand with his family.
He left behind his wife and sons who are safe, Samad’s younger brother AKM Shamsuddin told Bangla Tribune.
“We got to know that my brother died in the shooting,” he said, adding, “He (Samad) had been living in New Zealand since receiving citizenship 8-10 years ago. But he used to visit often.”
Bangladesh Agricultural University’s Agronomy Professor Dr Sultan Uddin Bhuiyan told Bangla Tribune’s that Samad used to work there during the 1980s.
“He went to New Zealand’s Lincoln University to acquire his PhD. Both his sons were born there,” he said.
He added that Samad quit his job at the agricultural university last year.
The heart wrenching attack at New Zealand’s Christchurch left 49 people dead so far.
