YabaCoast Guard members have seized 455,000 tablets of contraband yaba tablets from St Martin's Island in Cox’s Bazar.
The tablets were seized in a raid conducted early on Thursday (Mar 14), Teknaf Coast Guard Station In-charge Lieutenant Commander Rayhan Tariq told Bangla Tribune.
“A trawler came from Myanmar and crossed over to Bangladesh. Members of Coast Guard saw the suspicious activity and signaled the trawler to halt,” said Tariq.
“Instead of stopping, the people steering the trawler sped up and tried to make a getaway. When we went after them, they dropped a sack in the water and went back to the Myanmar side of the maritime border,” he added.
“We recovered the sack and found 455,000 yaba tablets inside,” said the Coast Guard official before adding, “Those are kept at the Teknaf Coast Guard office.”
