In Nilfamari, most schools do not have a Shaheed Minar and therefore, students do not have a clear idea about the significance of the Shaheed Minar.
Teachers say that if schools had Shaheed Minars, students would feel encouraged to learn about the history of the language movement.
A principal of Patowary para primary school, Rehena Begum, says, “To know the actual history of the language movement, Sheheed Minars need to be constructed.”
Teachers have said that there has to be a government initiative to construct Shaheed Minars as those currently constructed are being done at the initiative of school authorities and guardians.
Zainal Abedin, president of the primary education committee, says, “We do not get any government assistance and, therefore, are making the minar with local support.”
