Manikganj rape: Two policemen on six-day remand

Judicial Magistrate Md Golam Sarwar granted six days to grill accused — Sub-Inspector Sekandar Hossain and Assistant Sub-Inspector Mazharul Islam in custody on Tuesday (Feb 12) when they were produced before the court with a 10-day remand plea.

Earlier on Tuesday the duo were arrested after a day after a probe panel formed to investigate the incident primarily found proof of the rape allegation against them.

Saturia police Inspector Abul Kalam Azad, who is also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced the arrestees before the court.

On Monday (Feb 11) night the victim lodged a case with the Saturia police against the two policemen leading to their withdrawal pending investigation.

Inspector Azad told Bangla Tribune that medical test on the victim to gather evidence of the rape was completed on Monday.

Following the rape allegation a two-member probe body, consisting of Additional Superintendent of Police Hafizur Rahman of Sadar Circle and Senior Assistant Superintendent of District Special Branch Hamidur Rahman Siddique, was formed to look into the incident.

According to the allegations, Sub-Inspector Sekandar Hossain borrowed Tk100,000 from a woman in 2014, promising to return it with interest. On Feb 6, when the woman went to the police station with her niece to meet with SI Sekandar, they were taken to a nearby bungalow.

Sekander and his colleague ASI Mazharul Islam separated the two women and locked them in two rooms. The younger woman was then forced at gunpoint to consume yaba, and the accused took turn raping her.

The two women were kept locked in their rooms till Friday morning, when they were thrown out of the bungalow.
