Controversial article on BangabandhuCU teacher faces sedition case

Anwar Hossain ChoudhuryA sedition case has been filed against a Chittagong University teacher on allegation of publishing ‘controversial information’ on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a US journal.
Asaduzzaman Tanvir, former joint convener of Bangladesh Chattra League [BCL] Fatikchari unit, filed the case against Anwar Hossain Choudhury with the Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge court on Thursday (May 17).
“The court has taken the petition into cognizance and instructed the officer-in-charge of Chakbazar police station to investigate the matter”, Azharul Haque, lawyer of the petitioner, told Bangla Tribune.
Choudhury, an assistant professor of the university, published the article titled “Religious Politics and Communal Harmony in Bangladesh: A Recent Impasse” in the US-based Global Journal of Human-Social Science in 2017.
According to the case statement, the author has cited the name of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the article several times, but never mentioned the words ‘Bangabandhu’ or the ‘Father of the Nation’. It expresses the authors’ disgrace to the Father of the Nation.
Besides, in the article the 1971 Liberation War has been mentioned as the riot between the Muslims and the Hindus, it adds.
Choudhury, an accused of former BCL leader Diyaz Irfan Choudhury murder case, secured bail in the case two month ago.
