MP of Pirojpur-3, Dr Rustom Ali Faraiji, has declared a jihad against corruption and after being elected for the fourth time, has plastered a sticker all over his constituency which reads, “Bribes cannot be taken for any government work.”
The initiative, which also shares his mobile number for anyone to contact, has been widely praised.
“There is rampant graft here; by giving money at the settlement office one can have my land recorded in your name,” said a local and added, “Therefore, we welcome such a move by the MP.”
Jatiya Party’s elected MP Faraizi says, “At a reception given to me by the upazila administration, I arranged for everyone to take an oath to refrain from corruption.”
“Those who want to resort to graft will have to leave my constituency by 30 January.”
I gave my mobile number on the sticker so the people can call me if necessary.
Faraizi was first elected in 1996 from Jatiya Party and then joined BNP in 2001 and won the seat. In 2014, he contested and won as an independent candidate and this time won under JP’s umbrella.
Mothbaria UNO, GM Sarfaraz, says, “We welcome this anti-graft drive and will provide our sincere support.”
