Two people have been killed in what the police have described as a shootout during a raid in Shariatpur.

Both men, identified as Jahangir and Rasel, were members of inter-district robber gang, said Palang police OC Md Moniruzzaman.

On a tip-off that a gang of robbers are preparing for a robbery, police raided Rudrakar union’s Deobhag area around 3am on Monday (Jan 14). Sensing police present, the robbers opened fire prompting the police to retaliate when Jahangir and Rasel were caught in the crossfire.   

Two police officers were also injured in the incident.

Police say both were accused in several robbery cases.
