Kidnapper killed in Jashore shootout: Police

JashoreA kidnapper has been killed in a shootout in Jashore’s Manirampur Upazila, said police.
19-year-old Billal was killed around 2.30am on Wednesday (Jan 9) at the upazila’s Satnal area when police went to rescue a third grader Tarif who was missing from Sunday (Jan 6).

Tarif’s father Siddiqur Rahman filed a complaint on Monday (Jan 7) soon after he got the ransom call from the kidnapper. Police identified the kidnapper as Billal through a mobile banking account number (Bkash) which he (Billal) gave to send the ransom, said Jashore Additional Superintendent of Police Ansar Uddin.
Based on the information of account number, a police team conducted a drive at the area where the kidnappers opened fire to the law enforcers. Police fired back and at one stage, Billal caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, added Ansar Uddin.

A gun and one round bullet were seized from the scene, he added.

“Later, Tarif was recovered under the Khedaipur Culvert in the Upazila around 4am on Wednesday, said the Jashore police spokesperson.

Police said that they are preparing to file a case over the incident.
