Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader speaking to the media on Monday (Dec 17) at Narayanganj. The Election Commission will take strict measures against those who try to foil the peaceful polls environment, no matter which party they belong to, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
“The EC can take whatever measures they fit against the perpetrators of chaos and AL will not make any arguments there,” he told the media on Monday (Dec 17) after visiting the construction site of Kachpur Bridge in Narayanganj.
Quader warned the rebel candidates of the party to step aside by Tuesday (Dec 18), failure to do which will lead to formidable consequences.
“Since they can no longer withdraw their nominations, they can step aside by making the announcement through a media call.”
He added that this time AL’s rebel candidate has come down and he has attributed it to good leadership.
The road transport and bridges minister criticised Oikya Front convener Dr Kamal Hossain, accusing him of, “colluding with communal forces.”
He said that he cannot comprehend how Dr Kamal who had once shared political goodwill with Sheikh Mujib and Sheikh Hasina could stoop so low to defame Awami League.
“However we are not concerned about it. Waves of people are supporting ‘boat’ and want to vote for Sheikh Hasina.
The road transport and bridges minister pledged that construction of the Kachpur bridge was almost over and that it will be completed if the Grand Alliance comes to power for this term.
