Activists of the Awami League’s youth front, Juba League reportedly attacked Mannan’s motorcade at Kanthapara of Harirampur Upazila in the district.
Mannan claimed some 30 to 40 Juba League activists armed with sticks attacked his motorcade as soon as it reached Kanthapara for election campaign.
“They vandalised my vehicle and at least two motorcycles,” he said before adding that 15 to 20 of his supporters were injured in the attack.
The local Awami League, however, denies of being involved in the attack. “Internal feud within the Jatiya Party may have been behind the incident. It’s also possible that the local BNP may have attacked the motorcade,” said its local Juba League leader Aminur Rahman.
Police said they are yet to receive a formal complaint over the attack. “The perpetrators are yet to be identified. We will open an investigation if a complaint is filed,” said Harirampur police OC Aminur Rahman.
