At least 10 people including a local UP chairman have injured in a clash between the activists of ruling Awami League and BNP in Pabna, police said.
The clash is reported from Masumdia bazar of the district’s Amanpur Upazila on Saturday (Nov 8).
According to witnesses, the clash ensued after AL and BNP supporters exchanged provocative remarks over the 11th Parliamentary Election slated for Dec 30 at a tea stall of the market.
Police, however, said otherwise. “The clash erupted after BNP men hurled brick chips toward AL supporters while the later were sitting on the tea stall,” Aminpur police OC Mominul Islam told Bangla Tribune.
Chase and counter-chase reported.
The clash left 10 people injured including Masumdia union parishad Chairman Mirza Hossain.
Both AL and BNP blamed each another for attacking the opponent.
Vice-president of the district unit Bangladesh Chhatra League Mustafa Hossain Saddam said, “AL activists stopped at the tea stall after holding a meeting of the local ward committee. Suddenly, BNP men attacked them.”
“BNP leader and activists were sitting at the tea stall. All of a sudden, AL men attacked them,” said Selim Reza Habib, who will contest the Dec 30 election on BNP ticket.
Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police Goutam Kumar Bishwas said, “On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
“Ten people have been detained over the clash,” said Bishwas.
