Two killed in Chuadanga ‘shootout’

Two people have been killed in Chuadanga in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported in the early hours of Friday from the district’s Chuadanga Upazila, said police.
The victims have been identified as 40-year-old Jhontu and 43-year-old Dhulo.
“After receiving a tip that two gangs are engaged in shootout in a field near Gobindahuda village, police conducted a raid in the area around 1am on Friday. After the incident, two bullet ridden dead bodies were recovered from the scene,” said Damurhuda police OC Sukumar Biswas.
“The bodies have been sent to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital for autopsy,” added OC Biswas.
Police said that they have seized two locally made guns, two bullets, four bombs, cleavers, and three sacks of phensedyl from the scene.
According to local police, Jhantu is listed as a notorious drug peddler by the Home Ministry, and was accused in 11 cases. On the other hand, Dhulo was an infamous extremist, accused in more than twelve cases, including six for murder.
“Jhantu and Dhulo were killed in a shootout triggered by a dispute over controlling the illegal narcotics trade in the region,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police Abu Russell.
