15 Sylhet candidates dropped from raceThe nominations of 15 candidates aspiring to run for polls in the six Sylhet constituencies have been cancelled.
Returning Officer Kazi Emdadul Haque rejected the nomination of these 15 candidates on Sunday (Dec 2).
The rejected nominees include Jatiya Party leader and current Member of Parliament Selim Uddin Chowdhury.
Sylhet 1:
Md Anwar Hossain ‘s (Bangladesh Muslim League) nomination was cancelled due to his signature not being there on the affidavit.
The selected candidates are Dr AK Abdul Momen (Awami League), Khandaker Abdul Muktadir and Enam Ahmed Chowdhury (BNP), Ujjal Rai (BSD-Marxist), Pranab Jyoti Pal (BSD), Redwanul Hoque (Islami Andolon), Mohammad Foyzul Hoque (Islami Oikyajote), Yusuf Ahmed (Peoples Party), Mahmudur Rahman Chowdhury (JP) and Mowlana Nasir Uddin.
Sylhet 2:
The rejected candidates are Enamul Haque Sardar, Muhibur Rahman and Mohammad Abdur Rab (Independent).
The selected candidates Tahmina Rushdir Luna and Barrister Abrar Ilyas (BNP), Yayah Chowdhury (JP), Mowlana Kazi Amin Uddin (Jamaat-e-Ulemaye Islam), Monowar Hossain (NPP), Muntasir Ali (Khelafot Mazlish), Md Moshahid Khan (Bangladesh Nationalist Front) and Mokabbir Khan (Ganoforum).
Sylhet 3:
The rejected candidates are Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury (BNP), Junayed Mohammad Miya and Md Abdul Wadud (independent).
The selected candidates are Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury (Awami League), Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury, M A Hoque, Barrister MA Salam (BNP), Mowlana Atikul Islam and Mowlana Nazrul Islam (Jammat-e-Ulemaye Islam), Delowar Hossain (Khelafot Mazlish) and MA Motin Chowdhury (JP).
Sylhet 4:
The rejected candidates are Jatiya Party leader Ismail Ali’s nomination was as his signature was missing from the affidavit and failed to submit nomination letter of party.
The selected candidates are Imran Ahmed (Awami League), Dildar Hossain Selim and Advocate Shamsuzzaman Zaman (BNP), Mowlana Ataur Rahman (Jamaat-e-Ulemaye Islam), Manoj Kumar Sen (Biplobi Worker’s Party), Zillur Rahman (Islami Andolon) and Taz Uddin Taz Ahmed (JP).
Sylhet 5:
The rejected candidates are Member of Parliament and Whip Selim Uddin (JP), MA Matin (Islami Oikya Jote), Ahmed Al Wali (Independent), Mowlana Nurul Amin (Islami Andolon), Foyzul Munir Chowdhury (Independent).
The selected candidates are Hafiz Ahmed Mojumder (Awami League), Mowlana Obaidullah Faruque (Jamaat-e-Ulemaye Islam), Mamunur Rashid Mamun and Sharif Ahmed Lashkar (BNP), Mowlana Farid Uddin (Jamaat; but filed nomination paper as BNP), Md Shahid Ahmed Chowdhury (Muslim League) and Advocate Bahar Uddin Al Razi (Ganoforum).
Sylhet 6
The rejected candidates are Selim Uddin (JP) for missing signature in the affidavit and Jahangir Hossain Mia (Independent).
The selected candidates are Nurul Islam Nahid (Awami League), Faisal Chowdhury Helal Khan and Md Abdur Rakib (BNP), Mowlana Asad Uddin Al Mahmud (Jamaat-e-Ulemaye Islam), former foreign secretary Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury (Bikalpadhara), Mowlana Habibur Rahman (Jamaat; but filed nomination under BNP) and Azmal Hossain (Islami Andolon).
