Kibria’s son to contest polls with BNP’s ‘paddy sheaf’Reza Kibria, son of former finance minister and Awami League leader Shah AMS Kibria, will contest the Dec 30 national election under the anti-government alliance Jatiya Oikya Front.
Reza will vie for the Habiganj-1 constituency with BNP’s electoral symbol ‘sheaf of paddy.’
An economist, Reza Kibria, joined Dr Kamal Hossain’s Gono Forum, which is a component of Jatiya Oikya Front.
Shahab Uddin Shuvo, personal assistant to Reza, told Bangla Tribune, Reza collected the nomination form Gono Forum and has already submitted it.
Reza’s father Shah AMS Kibria served as the finance minister during Sheikh Hasina’s 1996-2001 tenure. He was the lawmaker from the Habiganj-3 constituency in 2001.
On Jan 27, 2005, Kibria along with four others were killed in a grenade attack at a party rally on Boidder Bazar primary school ground in Habiganj’s Sadar Upazila.
Two cases were opened over the Kibria killing, but the trial is yet to finish.
