Finance Minister AMA Muhith bought a nomination form for the Sylhet 1 constituency on Friday (Nov 9).
His son Shahed Muhith who bought the form on his behalf told Bangla Tribune, “My father could not go himself as the party office was overcrowded.
On Thursday (Nov 8), the minister said, “It’s my decision to not contest the polls. I want to retire.”
He added that he will be submitting the form as a dummy candidate, saying, “I will have to contest the polls if the candidate misses for some reason. It’s routine procedure.”
On several occasions before this, the octogenarian minister had reiterated that he will not be running for polls anymore.
The minister’s brother Dr AK Abdul Momen also bought the nomination form for the same constituency.
