Man killed in Rajbari ‘shootout’

A listed criminal has been killed in Rajbari in what the police describe as a shootout.
The incident was reported around 1.30am on Friday from the district’s sadar upazila, said police.
The victim has been identified as Mohammad Ali Sheikh, 35.
“Acting on a tip-off, a team of detective branch police conducted a raid at upazila’s Kuthi Pacuria bazar area in the wee hours on Friday. Sensing the presence of law enforcing men, a group of terrorists opened fire and in self defence police had to retaliate which triggered a shootout,” said Local police OC Md Kamal Hossain Bhuiyan.
“At one stage, the terrorist group flees from the scene and a bullet-ridden dead body was found from the spot. Later, the locals identified him as Mohammad Ali Sheikh,” he added.
“Mohammad Ali was sent to Rajbari Sadar Hospital where the doctor said that the victim died before it reached the hospital. Two DB member were injured during the shootout,” said Bhuiyan.
Police said that a pistol, 2 rounds of ammunition, a gun and 12 rounds of bullet were seized from the spot.
The body has been kept at Sadar hospital for autopsy.
Police said that Mohammad Ali Sheikh is listed criminal in murder cases.
