As many as 33 Rohingyas and six human traffickers have been held in Cox’s Bazar while attempting to illegally embark on a sea journey to Malaysia, says the coast guard.
The Rohingyas — 10 women, 14 men and nine children, were staying at different Rohingya camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf in the southeastern district.
Coast Guard Teknaf Station chief Lt Foyezul Islam Mondol said that they were arrested from south-east part of Bay of Bengal near the Saint Martin’s island on Wednesday (Nov 7).
A trawler was also seized from them, added Mondol.
He said that the arrest was made during a raid conducted on a tip-off that a group of Rohingyas were being smuggled to Malaysia.
