Two dead in Narsingdi anti-terror raidTwo suspects have died during the raid on a ‘terror hideout’ in Narsingdi on Tuesday.
Monirul Islam, chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told the media that two members of Neo-JMB including a woman were killed.
“A firearm has been found at the scene. It’s yet to be confirmed whether the suspects died of gunshots or in the blasts detonated by them,” he said.
Law enforcers cordoned off the five-storey building in Shekherchar and evacuated residents close to the houses and restricted entry within 500 yards of the houses.
Police surrounded the house around 9pm on Monday and a SWAT team joined the raids on early Tuesday.
The operation, codenamed ‘Gordian Knot’, has ended, said top counter-terror officer Monirul.
Law enforcers have also cordoned off a seven-storey building in Madhabdi Boro Masjid area at Gangpar of Narsingdi.
“Police will move to raid the Madhabdi hideout in daylight (on Wednesday). They will be asked to surrender otherwise, we will launch an operation,” said Monirul.
Police believe that the militants are holed up in an apartment of a seven-storey building owned by Afzal Haji in Madhabdi Municipality.
