Zafarullah sued for extortion

Dr Zafrullah ChowdhuryAmid being probed over remarks on the army chief, Ganashasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafarulah Chowdhury has now been sued on charges of demanding Tk 10 million as extortion in Dhaka’s Ashulia, say police.

Manikganj resident Mohammad Ali filed the case on Monday (Oct 16), Ashulia police OC Rezaul Haque Dipu told Bangla Tribune.

The case accuses three other unidentified people.

According to Ali, a few years back, he and two others bought a 4.24 acre of land before setting up a boundary with barbwires.

He accuses Zafrullah’s and his associates of attempting to grab the property after pressuring them to sell it off at a nominal price. Ali says he has filed several GDs with Ashulia police station on the matter.

On Sunday (Oct 14), Zafrullah’s men came again pressured him to sell the land. When Ali refused, the men demanded Tk 10 milion as extortion.

As he refused to pay the extortion, they vandalises the establishments on the property.

Following the incident, Ali filed a case with Ashulia police late on Monday.

“Necessary actions will be taken after investigation,” Ashulia police OC Dipu.
