‘Robber’ killed in ‘shootout’ at Bandarban

Police gun barrelA ‘robber’ was killed in an alleged shootout with the police in Bandarban.

Police said that the incident took place at 2 am on Saturday (Sept 22) near Baishari brick field at Naikhyongchari Upazila.

The victim was identified as Anowar Hossain, 40.

Naikhyongchari police OC Md Alamgir Sheikh said, “We received a tip-off that a group of robbers were preparing for a robbery at the brick field and sent a police team to look into it,”

“The robbers opened fire at the police team when they were discovered and police officers fired back in self-defence and found Anower dead,” added Md Alamgir.

Police recovered two guns and six bullet shells from the scene.

Two police officers, Sultana and Jyoti Chakma were injured during the alleged shootout.
