UPDFChattogram hill track based political party United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) has blamed the reformist group of Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS, MN Larma) for the killing of their two activists who were shot dead in Rangamati's Naniarchar upazila.

The party also demanded immediate arrest of the killers to bring them to justice.

“The reformist group killed the party activists out of vengeance because they exposed their corruption and activities that go against national interest,” A statement from UPDF Rangamati Unit’s Organizer Sachal Chakma said, that was sent to the media on Friday (Sept 21).

The PCJSS, however, denied the allegations.

Miscreants shot dead two UPDF members identified as Akorshon Chakma, 42 and Shyamol Kanti Chakma Sumonto, 30 at 3am on Friday.

According to the UPDF, the duo recently joined the party after leaving the PCJSS, which the UPDF leaders are alleging to be a reason for their murder.

A separate statement from UPDF’s Publicity and Publication unit’s spokesperson Niron Chakma said, “Both the victims took refuge under the UPDF after leaving the reformist group of JSS. They were killed because they made their corruptions public.”

UPDF demanded immediate arrest of the killers and exemplary punishment for the killing in the statement.

Refuting the allegations, PCJSS (MN Larma) Central Committee's Publicity Secretary Sudhakar Tripura said, “Our organization is not involved in the incident.”

“These killings may have been the result of their internal conflict,” he added.
